Leasfoot
beach, Thurlestone Sands and Thurlestone Rock viewed from the beautiful
Thurlestone Golf Course.
The name derives from the saxon, 'thurled' meaning holed. The 'holed
stone' has been a landmark for more than a millenium. Behind the beach
is a freshwater ley and nature reserve. The village of South Milton
is just over a mile up the valley from the beach. There have been several
notorious wrecks on Thurlestone Sands, which were plundered by the local
inhabitants.
