Kingsbridge Show Sept. 1998
TheShow has a wide variety of agricultural and domestic classes mixed with displays and trade stands. This is still a predominantly mixed farming area, with small family farms still managing the landscape, many of those farms still based on the sites of the original celtic and saxon homesteads.
The churches of the South Hams were built predominantly in the fourteenth and fifteenth century, financed by the wealth generated from the medieval woolen trade. During the last twenty years there have been major changes in our countryside with farms moving into other businesses and the mass conversion of farm building into new homes. Fewer people work on the land but there has been an influx of people into the small rural communities from other parts of the country.
